How to be happyThis year started with a lot of thinking! It is already and it’s going to be a very interesting year for me and for my dear ones, with lots of changes on a personal level and also professionally. All these changes will come step by step and I plan in enjoying them one by one. I hope you will also enjoy all changes coming on your side! Let the change shape you like a diamond lets his master shape it!

As you all know, I am a very creative person and I love when I come up with new things, when I can help my clients in new ways and when I discover interesting tools that can help increase happiness for me and for others.

You also know that I am one of the people that thinks happiness is made of small moments that we live each day and that’s why I love sharing the small moments that mean happiness for me; hoping that they will encourage you to notice the small moments you have in your own life and be grateful for them! Maybe you could share them with us!

And I also found that some things done proactively help us increase happiness. The list can be very long and I intend sharing with you more and more, but for now we will focus on these ones:

  • Count your blessings – it’s been proven that the more you are grateful for what you have, the happier you get. We tend to forget what we already have and we take a lot of things for granted, like our home, our relationships, our health, our surrounding environment. Look at where you are now and how blessed you are!
  • Spend time alone – when you need it, just get yourself in a place you love and take time to plan, think, relax, “oil your engine”. It does not mean you are antisocial, but you are just recharging your batteries and get time to think on your own.
  • Sleep as much as you need – recover yourself when you need it. Lack of sleep causes illness and burnout. Why carry with you the tiredness all the time? Take some good sleep and you will be as new the next day!
  • Laugh out loud – I love when I hear or see people laughing with all their heart and body! Laugh increases the blood circulation and gets you in a good mood. What do you care if the others can hear you? As laugh is contagious, you could actually help others laugh too.
  • Just say no – when you can’t help the other person. Your “no” should be honest, clear and free of guilt. We normally cannot say no because we don’t want to feel guilty. But if we cannot keep our commitment we will feel even more guilty. Learn to say no or learn to say an “alternative yes” – offering an alternative solution.
  • Be kind – in the world that surrounds us kindness is scarce and we got used to offer free mean words, mean looks and behavior. But we do find examples of kindness that surprise us and make us become better people. So why not be the kind person you want to see more around you? Kindness will attract kindness.
  • Find your purpose and live it – a lot of people feel lost and they feel their lives have no sense because they don’t know what their purpose is. You have a natural talent that you know about or it’s still hidden, you have a dream or you have an idea of what your life should be about. Declare it, engage and live it fully! Your life will be fulfilled and you will feel happier.

Print the poster you find here and decide each day to focus on one thing and do it until it becomes habit. Consider these practices as your habits for happiness!

PS: One important result of the “thinking” that I did at the beginning of this year is that I am going to focus a part of my activity on one important aspect of our lives: creativity! Without creativity we cannot reinvent ourselves, we cannot dream big, we cannot find new solutions to old problems, we cannot find happiness. And I noticed that creativity brings a lot of happiness in my life and in the life of the clients that I worked with! So I decided to combine my job as a coach with creativity…and what came out? A creativity coach! But more about this another time.
