relationships8Laugh and love: they just go together! We feel better with our partner when we are in a good state and laugh. Preparing for Valentine’s day make a choice to smile more and laugh more when communicating with your partner.

Tip #8: Use humor to relax and solve problems

There are a few protective factors that help your relationship hold together when in rough times. These factors can be easily found in the happy periods of the relationship and most of the times they are: affection, time together, support, sharing and expressing feelings, humor.

The last one is one of the most important ones to help make a twist from a very stressful situation into a light one, when the focus can move towards the solution and not the problem anymore.

Humor is the most effective tool for keeping communication exciting, fresh and healthy. It helps your relations by giving them a touch of fun and creates rapport by sharing pleasure. Humor helps you connect to others, level the differences, feel relaxed and energized, solve problems and be more creative and find new solutions.

We are attracted by funny, happy people and we chose our partner by looking for a good sense of humor. And our partner feels better when they spend time with a person that is in a good mood: it charges them with energy.

For this special day and also for the rest of your life together chose to use humor and:

  • make sure you are part of the joke too, not only your partner – using humor is not an excuse to be sarcastic and make fun of the other;
  • be spontaneous and use humor to interrupt fights and solve problems – only when the joke you are making is not hurting the other and is not growing the problem even more; joking can help relax, let go of the differences, be less defensive and solve the issue easier;
  • give feedback in a playful was – your partner will be happy that you are helping and will not be angry that you are criticizing;
  • open up – you express your feelings better and you let go of the tension.

So, what is the first fight or problem in your relationship that you will solve today using humor?
