Speaking about the GOD Complex is too complex and one cannot say that the subject is completely covered… like ever. Also, as per Plato’s “cave allegory”, every opinion, every concept, every truth, every attitude is subject to interpretation. Even the GOD Complex.
In the last article we talked about the negativity of the GOD Complex, but how about the positivity?! The representation and perception of a GOD usually involves trust, power, leadership, a characteristic or attitude that people look up to. Leaving aside the selfish reasons behind feeling yourself a GOD, you can also be inspiring and empowering for others.
If you realize what you are doing and why, you can limit the negative side effects and actually reflect or enact something positive. One can still have selfish reasons and keep to their own opinion, but this particular one person can do a little introspection and transform the negative into an exemplary attitude and keep the respect and interest of the people around.
For example, when trying to convince your friends about going to a specific vacation destination, try to use more words than “I want to go there” when trying to manipulate them into making the decision you want. Guide them to reading the reviews you want them to read about the location you want to go, present them with very flattering photos of the location, give options you know they will reject…be selfish, just like a GOD, but act human.
You will get what you want, like the GOD that you are, but you will not be hated or criticized during the process.
Also keep in mind that you always have to change ways, approaches and the way you handle people and situations. Act smart, just like a GOD.
It may seem funny, or mean, but people don’t change, they merely adapt and deep down inside they are who they are, the only thing that can be done is try to shift focus, make people feel good about being used for different purposes and try to act in such a way that you, the GOD, will not to be considered a pathological case.
To all you GODS out there: try to be the powerful leader, the friendly GOD, the charismatic asshole who cannot be denied anything….the one people usually hate, but the one they cannot not love for who they are and how they do things.
